It all comes out in the wash
Ink wash drawings combine the versatility of ink with the absorbent
properties of paper in expressive and even surprising
ways. To create an ink wash drawing, an artist lays down a monochrome
wash of diluted ink with a brush, then adds lines of darker ink with
a pen. Depending on how much of the liquid wash soaks into the paper,
the pen drawing might seep across the page in organic fractal patterns
and create an animated, irregular line. An experienced artist knows how
to manipulate the ink, wash, and paper to achieve luminous, liquid
effects.
Here are some examples of ink wash drawings available from NextMonet.
