The art of perfect balance
You have chosen the most symmetrical, clearly balanced image.
The disk is an equal distance from each side of the square and from
its four corners. This type of symmetry called radial symmetry
provides a strong sense of focus and movement around the center
point. A well-known example of radial symmetry is the "rose" stained
glass windows in Gothic cathedrals. Paul Booker's modern version of
a rose window (shown at right) demonstrates the presence and power
of radial symmetry.
Radiant imagery
Here are some other works available from NextMonet that demonstrate
this type of strong, central compositional balance. Click on either
image to find out more about it.
